me and @schlep came up with this method basically u copy ppl that are rlly good and then u make it better or put ur own spin on it
having passion to improve or be like that one dude helps loke if u look for ways to improve ur shit u will improve hella there are tons of ways i cant name off the top of my head but yeah
uhhh try to compete and have a goal idk i always feel like i have to one up someone whether it be some japanese guy or an african louisiananian male

just trying to learn new shit to incorporate into ur music helps, like sound designing, or learning how acoustic shit works like drums and gitars, skmething that’s also helped me immensely is remaking dtuff i rly like to see what they’re doing i enjoy, some creators are generous enough to give out projects/flps like noaki so u gotta use different daw advantages to the best of ur ability, i like remaking jn Audiotool because it’s limiting and often times transfeeejng limiting techniques to fl studio improves my workflow immensely, it’s hard to explain but i guess removing a “limiter” helps you improve, kind of like why saitsma is so strong in one punch man LOL

if there’s no project file i’ll sometimes split stems and analyze them from different songs to try and remake stuff, premium tools i wish i could use (like extracting that specific string, guitar, piano, etc) but i just try to remake by ear a lot of times

when i first started out on this site jn 2021 ish i had the blessing of working with @izanami on a wave track and i looked at that draft quite a bit to show myself all the ropes which led to the use of a lot of techniques i use now, that track was truly a goldmine for a lot of the stuff i can do/actually do now

but yeah i would say i always learn a lot of new things every year, not necessarily “trying” to learn new things but i guess a pursuit and passion for knowledge to ensure you’re the best version of yourself/a well rounded musician is probably a good way of finding what you love and what works best for you, maybe remaking isnt your tthing but rather sound design inf IDK it really depends person to person im jsut telling u whay works for me beat, u make breakcore so like listening to a lot of breakcore varieties and copying the chopping or splicing thwy use and put ur own spin on it, it rlly depends tbh

doing what you love is especially important bc i feel like a lot kf young prods now are pushing it too much jsut trying to get consistency out or one up themselves in someone, you have to truly believe in/love what youure doing otherwise youll get caught up in a bad cycle of music making and potentially but very often burnt out, which is worst case scenario. just let ideas flow to u loke if u hesrd that one song or ost u really like and u wanna do a style of it then do it, i find a beatmaking schedule very worthless and stupid especially only if you’re in it for the money, me personally im more of a “follow your heart” kind of prod and not a bag chasing trap diddy blud🤑🤑

always remember to practice even if it sounds shit
the best way is to gain knowlege about your daw and effects and shit rather than only creating when you have a spark
if you dont have a general idea of what you wanna make then thats ok just make shit on the spot

Real. What I'd add is that it takes time to find your sound at first. When you're still listening to other people's music without the knowledge of how to get a sound you like, it can be quite discouraging. I used to want to get tracks to sound as close to my inspirations as possible,I got very frustrated and burnt out. Slowly I gained more confidence in where to take the music "I" wrote, without having to be like... Skrillex or Flume 2.0. What you need to get to that point is IMHO:

  1. Love for what you do (if you hate making music [the process]) it's not the right thing for you, likely. But that can be worked on and can develop over time.
  2. Have either extremely high levels of confidence or be kinda ignorant/careless. Believe that you CAN create that track you wanted to. And then just try it out. The results may be shit and you may feel bad, but I can assure you you're going to learn a ton.
  3. Soak up inspiration/info everywhere. Be a sponge for that. Be an active listener. Be curious not only for music, but also just sound itself. Explore and experiment pointlessly simply for the sake of exploring. I learnt several techniques from that.

And I kid you not. I firmly believe that if you believe or tell yourself that you're a great producer, you'll become one.

fuck around and find out as much as you can! the more curious and open-minded you are while producing the more you'll learn and the easier your ideas will flow. it's rlly important to keep things stimulating and fun so that you dont plateau. a lot of the time if you do shit with a rigid vision of what your music has to sound like you will be frustrated / bored a lot of the time

in a similar vein, i've been doing this challenge with my friend where we spin a wheel with a bunch of different genres, artists, challenges, and vibes on it. whatever we land on is smth we have to try to make, even if it's just a short loop. it's been really good for exercising my creative muscles, generating ideas, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. doing it with a friend also adds an accountability aspect to it that prevents me from giving up. you should try it!

stop caring about the quality and just make whatever you want
ask for feedback and improve from there
