slow down and dissect your favorite songs to hear how they're build

A big part of "being creative" comes from experimentation. Try to do something unique, or even downright crazy. Putting reverb on a bassline or a comb filter on a tb-303 might not be the most technically "smart" decision, but if you do enough experimentation you might end up with something cool. Also, don't just stick to the typical cliches of a specific genre. That will definitely stifle creativity, so don't be afraid to cross over into different territory.

experiment a lot, make a good sound, and watch the ideas explode.

Give yourself arbitrary limitations. For example, can only use all Pulvs, or can only use Drum samples.

You are forced to become more CREATIVE with the things you are limited to.

Hmm...

  1. Get inspiration from others.
It's always helpful to take inspiration from other things. Just make sure you are not just completely copying.
  2. Try to re-create your favorite songs. Because Audiotool is a different platform than most other DAWs, you'll most likely get something completely different.
  3. Mess around.
    Do it.
  4. Do a remix. If all else has failed, hijack someone else's creativity by doing a remix.

as a professional motion graphics artist I have had people ask me how I can be creative all day every day. Where do I get the inspiration to do that? The truth is, as a professional, I dont have the luxury of waiting around for inspiration to hit. I have to jump in head first and just start making shit and trust that inspiration will find me along the way.
My advice to be more creative is to just start making something, keep moving forward with it even if it sucks. inspiration will strike at some point and you just gotta be ready to run with it.
Also, getting inspiration from others is great... but try to get inspiration from things that ARE NOT MUSIC. try to find inspiration in the way rain hits your windshield and refracts the light as you drive to work, how the reflections in water ripples will distort reality, that warm fuzzy feeling you get right after sex, or that feeling you get when you break a bone and know its broken but it doesn't hurt yet... thats the kind of thing that should inspire your music. real shit. life shit. dont be a clone of everyone else living in a vacuum only getting inspiration from your favorite musicians.
anyway, just my 2cents
