You could obviously silence DM notifications or close your DMs (or block certain people) if you want but enabled DMs will always be there to check.

Certain words/phrases can be easily blacklisted or flagged and saying certain things could get you put on some sort of list (or you just get temporarily or permanently banned from DMs and possibly Audiotool).
There's no surefire way of preventing e-dating on Audiotool, even inviting someone to a draft just to "talk" is one of the most popular versions of a private DM in Audiotool. It's not monitored nor is there any sort of alert system set up for sensitive words and/or sentences.
If we could get a more convenient and professional way of communicating via Audiotool, it would be through a DM system.

The fact that people are using audiotool to date rather than social media should be clue as to why this site will never have dm options

It's way more than just "If youre a child and can't handle reading adult comments". It's clear you've never seen the wall of someone being actively groomed and told sexual things. Adding a DM feature would make such things extremely hard to catch and would put child safety in jeopardy. There's a reason why sites like twitter and discord have rampant child safety problems.

Obviously im fearmongering here and a DM service probably wouldnt be nearly as bad as im thinking it would, and just adding a "Report DM" would fix a lot of the problems i'd have with said service. It's just this site has elementary schoolers on it (Compared to twitter/discord have a 13+ age requirement) that wouldnt know any better.

tbf the moderation team is not nearly staffed enough to be keeping track of everyone's dm conversations

yeah but in general its a safe rule of thumb to remember eventually someone will see everything little thing you say if they need to

I fear they would get abused a lot and all of that not being visible to most users could mean online mobbing among the other things people have already mentioned here. Likely there's not even enough staff to upkeep and look through those DMs.

It's often not as simple as just blocking someone, or closing DMs.
