Many times when people leave the site or go on very long breaks, they don't delete their account; I've found this to be an interesting form of "historical preservation" so to speak. On the other hand, I've seen a lot of newer users floating around, which indicates that the site is still growing. That said, I was just wondering if anyone knows (or has a somewhat reliable estimate) how many accounts have seen a login in the past year? month? (etc)
Thanks for your time!

it would be cool if audiotool added "12,842 producers online" to the front page

Could be a decent advertisement

2008 audiotool user count

I don't know but about 6-7 years ago I feel there was far more people active and interested on this site. Seemed like there was a lot more buzz back then, with people like Deadmau5 using it on stream & endorsement by Ritchie Hawtin. We had a lot of official remix comps, the playcount on front page tracks was much higher. The idea of having fully collaborative online DAW seemed very promising, and now we have those features and hype is non-existent for whatever reason.

The tragedy of the finished product: nobody interacts with it.

2021-10-09 00:27 · 2021-10-09

it's not finished, it's just that some of the devs, mods and fanboys like to pretend it is

How do they pretend it's finished?

Jo Cripple, don't talk shit. Which developer or mod claims that everything is finished? They are working hard behind the scenes to keep it going. And nobody is happy if it takes longer than planned. Your ill-considered, hostile babbling is really a challenge. Why do you still hang around here all day bitching if you think it sucks so much and not just go somewhere else and bust their balls?

Audiotool is a labor of love, not a cynical cash-in. Respect goes out to the entire team.

That you can live longer when you piss me off 😁

I will freely talk shit mr.sand burger because I am not content with the state of this website, and time and time again I have been shown evidence that their priorities are in the wrong place, that mods would rather police boards for dumbshit than try to deal with actual problematic users, and that fanboys would just like sit back in the burning house that is this website and go "this is fine", "there is a workaround for that" or "you are expecting too much from a free daw (conveniently ignores other better free daws)". I am still here because I'm waiting to be proved wrong, but as of now I've just been continually proven right, and the website of my childhood is getting dangerously close to reaching a new low.

The developers are skilled coders and engineers, and aren't geared towards public relations or social community management. They do what they do best, which is develop the platform from a technical perspective. If you have issues with the technical direction of the site, might I suggest donating to the team via the AT Patreon? It wouldn't make you a shareholder, but you would be contributing to the continued growth of the platform. Lamenting the state of audiotool doesn't help anyone, and only contributes negativity to the community.

@cripplingcompression Thanks for the explanation. This is an opinion I can deal with. Reading your zynical, passive agressive oneliners is pissing me off because it's simply not helpful and partly exaggerated or wrong. But with the background that there is a comprehensible point of view behind it, I will be able to deal with it better in the future.

@infyuthsion thanks for the explanation. It's a shame I missed the "glory days" of the website. Hopefully we could see a resurgence in popularity sometime because from what I understand, Audiotool Next was quite a large upgrade from what Audiotool used to be. Keep up the good work devs!

I’m sorry, Infy I have told you that I do not support the current direction of the Audiotool devs. There was a time when I still believed in AT, that I would have been willing to support them monetarily. But today, I would not do it because I believe I would’ve monetarily incentivizing them to continue on the current path they are on, the path that I am not a huge fan of. If their goals made sense to me and I actually did think that what they were doing was the best direction, I would have supported them, but as things stand now, donating to their patreon is the last thing I would ever want to do
