You can edit a description of your threads all the time, but comments and replies have a time-out for editing (as @jetdarc already pointed out).
That's a common decision to allow users to fix some typos, broken links, etc. but prevents messing up an existing discussion.
You can (in case of fire) delete your own comments any time. Most time I prefer to add a correction as comment. To err is human.

it works on newer comments now, but i don't get it.
I think you can only edit comments up to a minute or two after you posted them
