new to the genre but i have this song that has a really dark dubstep vibe, and im looking for anyone that works in the genre to help me with the track or teach me how to make dubstep. please and thank you!
well, you have to distinguish brostep from dubstep. brostep is a subgenre of dubstep that relies on mid-range growls. dubstep is in the name, Dub. that means its more low-range, and it has a lot more dub influence.
-Dubstep is usually 140bpm, and relies on beats with two steps (think of a standard 4/4 beat, but half the speed).
-
-The basic structure of dubstep is usually intro-buildup-drop-midsection-buildup-drop-outro, with the drop often being the centerpiece of dubstep.
-
-Bass drops vary between dubstep songs. That is, while more modern dubstep songs (good examples include Skrillex's First of the Year) tend to have more high-pitched sounds, there are songs which rely on more low pitched wobbles (it was a staple of early dubstep AFAIK, but it has seen a resurgence with some old-dubstep-inspired songs appearing in channels like UKFDubstep).
-
-YouTube channels like UKFDubstep provide good examples on what to expect from dubstep genre. Also, you can check out artists like Docktor P, Skrillex, Excision or Virtual Riot (or my personal recommendation, Xilent).

so are you trying to make dubstep, or brostep?
