I love using risers/crashes and other white noise based effects to lead up and descend into a transition. I also like to use filter and volume automation leading up to the transition to create tension that gets released when the transition happens (basically build ups to a drop).

My dirty trick is to fade in noise, transition, and fade out the noise to mask unsmoothness.

this is great. I tried looking it up but all I got were tips on how to go from build to drop which I didn't need.
I think that these transitions work between any two sections. The article even mentions this.
