Sometimes I already have a melody in mind; other times, one develops on its own.
Here are some things I've tried:
Listen to other music and take inspiration from it. For me, it's 80's new wave, lately.
Build chords (using known chord progressions or on my own) and add one more layer on top. Randomly move the top notes from chords around to make lead melody.
Start with beats and then hum a melody that might fit in and match the notes from what I'm humming.
Play around with the Tonematrix, probably one of the easiest tools to build melodies with.
I saw someone say that melody is about 80% rhythm. While I don't quite share this sentiment, when I know that I want a certain feel for my melody I start by just tapping out notes to a certain rhythm.
step by step:
get a heisenburg
right click the heisenburg
go to "load preset"
look up what you want
and once u get that create some note tracks.
:)
(to create a melody, it takes time, get a few heisenburgs and create some. tinker around. after u create a platform of the melody, add a ambience preset. It helps)
Just play around, that's how I go about things. Play around until you have good-sounding progression, and base everything off that. It's easier to start it off with the bass first.
Also, check the link I posted below for some principles, or Google how to compose melodies. Most people here just advise to play random notes until something sounds good, but composing good melodies is based on music theory principles concerning contour, intervals, rhythm, motifs, repetition, etc. I also recommend the book "Melody in Songwriting" by Jack Perricone from Berkelee Press. It goes very in depth into good melody writing.
Best to make everything in scale is to write your melody/chords in pure whites and then transpose it up or down few notes. Rest is just try and error method.
Choosing which key is the best for your track is usually done quite early, during composition, as it influences the specific chords or melodies that will sound best. Once the key is chosen, it's not too difficult to find the notes of the corresponding scale and use them to write. Also, as I mentioned below, music theory can provide many tools to write effective melodies and progressions besides just trial and error.
Meeeee I know i'm late but I need help with finding a good sound and then making melodies, I already have chord somewhat down I just need more tips on how to use them. I mostly need help with making a sad trap type of melody.

I started out making experimental and ambient music before making a transition into shitty edm music. Lol , But anyway,One thing to understand is that ambient music has an emphasis on atmosphere and vibes rather than an emphasis on melodies and rhythm. I recommend using a long chord progression that showcases a strong atmosphere such as a melodic a-minor chord progression.
Hey there, good day. Appreciate your response to my answer. I have little knowledge of music . I intend to create relaxing music for my Youtube video. Will you advise what synthesizer , tool & effect I should use ? I just need a simple background music. Thanks lot

just make a new track, load up a preset on the Heisenberg, and let your creativity flow! This is a music site, we need people to be creative.

Pattern regions and note regions are different things. Patterns don't contain notes.

Besides, using only white notes for composing and then transposing would work for major scales only.
