Answering your questions

Hi, I am one of the developers.

I've seen a lot of users expressing the want for more transparency or updates on what is happening behind the scenes, so feel free to ask me anything about Audiotool and I'll do my best to answer.

I will not comment on the Andre/Andreas situation as I don't have anything to add and this is already being discussed in other channels.

However I understand there are legitimate concerns being raised by the community, and am happy to try to address any questions as best I can as long as the discussion remains civil.

To clarify, nobody has asked me to do this, and I don't necessarily represent the views or opinions of anyone else who works here. Just thought it might be good to start a bit more dialogue with the community :)

  • is there an end goal for the studio/site to work towards, or is the plan to come out with intermittent updates indefinitely?

if the former is true, what is that goal? if the latter is true, will the updates be more influenced by user feedback or by current trends on competing platforms?

  • JuJuu so I have a question.

Are you guys planning to add color settings? Like, go to preferences, and click theme and for example, if i clicked green, everything would be a grand scheme of green.

    • This already exists as a patreon feature ;-)

  • Prod. LV tbh i agree

  • Yo, gotta question. Could there be an updated genre system, where if enough ppl vote on a new genre, then it could become a chart? Because alot of ppl (including myself), are coming up with hybrid genres. I'm just wondering if with enough crowd support we could add custom genres with a poll type system. Anyways, another one is the theme of the studio. FL Studio has an almost fully customizable studio theme editor. Do you think yall could add something like that too. And the last one is concerning the more sophisticated end of AT. About the "clans" on Audiotool. Ik there are alot of ppl with a "clan" tag, but there isn't actual joinable clans. I think this would be very helpful for ppl who have similar ideas, and could be in a collective. But if you do consider this, please exclude censoring un-followed or following ppl from joining, as that will create cliques within the clans. But please do include censoring of crude language, and abuse, and DATING, ppl should be able to get reported for dating. All that stuff that common sense takes care of ;) But yeah those are my questions, sorry if its too much rn, I jus gotta big brain (XD, jkjk).

    • Thanks for the reply, I know some of the names of the devs, but not the mods. Thanks again, and yes shout-out to all the great ppl who keep this place afloat.

    • Hey LV sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Yes genres are a very tricky one indeed, and it would make much more sense for them to be fluid somehow rather than static. It's something we're thinking a lot about although we don't quite have a final solution yet that we can share. It will definitely be different and hopefully improved with the next version though! Themes are also a great idea and one we might want to add at some point :)

Just a quick shoutout to all of our amazing mods who put a lot of effort into keeping the website an enjoyble and safe place for users. I don't know if they want to be named but please show some love to them if you know who they are!

    • I'm glad that someone else backs me up. Cuz I came up with a genre I call "bouncetrap" (pluggnb and hoodtrap/jerk mixed), but another person made a edm-jersey club hybrid, that I think if enough support was granted, could be voted into reality.

  • I assume the current plans is to just overhaul backend stuff and UI stuff, but what about the devices in the daw?

Are there any plans to unlock parameters for certain devices like the heisenburg? Modulation for each oscillators are capped at 100%, but i've seen other plugins be able to go above that, as much as 800% what about attack, release times for ADSRs? How about changing the oscillators of the pulv and heisenburger? The pulv's sinewave is the same as the heisenburg's "parabola". And I would much rather have a real pure sinewave for the pulv, the parabola introduces unwanted harmonics. Also the heisenburg's waves are very low detailed, the squarewave and sawtooth are kind of lowpassed, which i don't like. could be nice to make our own waves or something? How about allowing the pulv's LFO to go into the kHz for some FM synth stuff? How about triggering the 303 with MIDI? ;-)

no need to answer everything, just mostly the top question i am interested in. Are you guys working on updating any of the devices?

    • Yeah its sucks when you get rlly used to something and then it changes XD

    • This is exciting to hear!! :-) i'm glad there wont be 78635 different pulv versions to choose from in the future. Hopefully things will keep being developed

    • Hi kurp! Some great audio nerd questions here :)

As part of the studio re-build we are definitely looking at quality-of-life changes for all of the devices. This might mean some streamlining or more consistency across certain common controls (bypass, dry/wet, etc.) as well as updating some obvious jankiness.

At some point we would love to be able to make some device-specific updates to controls and sound, especially given the improved capabilities of the new engine. We have to be more careful here however as this goes into very opinionated and subjective territory, and also we need existing tracks to sound close to how they sounded before when someone opens them in the new studio. We also don't want users to have to choose between 4 or 5 versions of the Pulv for example if we keep updating how it plays/sounds.

I'm sure our team will come up with clever ways to make nice additions while maintaining backwards compatibility, and this is something we'll probably look at post-launch especially if there is demand for it, but for now we're focused on getting the new engine to sound as close as possible to the current version. Sorry I can't give more specific answers to your questions for now!

      > How about triggering the 303 with MIDI? ;-)

for this one you'll have to wait and find out once the new version is launched ;-)

  • will we be getting any design changes or new features for this side of site?

for example changes to the feed, or artist's pages, etc

    • @naswalt That sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortunately you're on the money, the devs probably won't be able to relax too much for the weeks before and after the update!

    • @jujuu we should hold a community party in the discord for when the updates start launching. While everybody is waiting for the site to come back up we could all be on discord (minus the poor developers who have to watch the system to make sure all goes smoothly... we'll save a plate for y'all!) we could do marathons of audiotool music through youtube/spotify playlists and mock up our own ms-paint renders of what the new audiotool would look like.

    • short answer?

  • When are you guys gonna add simple samplers like soundation, Import a one shot/ sample and open the piano roll with all the octaves and note patterns? with better gliding?

    • Alright, Thank You for Answering!

    • We are very aware this is one of the most sought after features for the Studio, and is a must-have in any capable DAW.

All I can say is something is in the works, we've already done some experimenting with our new engine. We are focused on the upcoming new studio version for now and I can't promise it will be included at launch but it will be high priority for sure.

  • dunno what question I wanna ask ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
